He specialised at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands and then worked in various clinics in the Netherlands. He has been working in Guatemala and then settled in Benissa since 1994. He collaborates with several universities directing rotations in Family Medicine. What he likes most about working in Spain is the freedom to organise the timetable to see patients, which means enough time to dedicate to all patients without overloaded schedules.
Max Meertens is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9.15 am - 1 pm, always by appointment in order to be able to serve everyone well and to avoid waiting time.

We offer a home visit service in Benissa and its surrounding areas, as well as in the Pop Valley (Jalón, Llíber, Alcalalí, Parcent and the surrounding area). If you live in another part of the Marina Alta, please check with us about availability when booking your visit.
Virtually the same as in a GP’s surgery: examination and diagnosis, treatment, wound care, monitoring of long-term and bedridden patients, and issuing or renewing prescriptions. If a test or blood test is required, we coordinate this with the clinic and the laboratory.
Yes. For afternoon emergencies, call 639 60 42 69. In the evenings, at weekends and on public holidays, that same number will put you through to the on-call service, which is staffed by multilingual doctors from the local area. In the event of a serious emergency, always call 112.
Yes. We organise regular home visits for elderly people, those with reduced mobility or those with chronic conditions: we monitor their blood pressure and medication, track their progress and ensure they receive continuous care from the same GP. This provides peace of mind for both the patient and their family.
Yes. We provide care in Spanish, English, Dutch, German and French, including during home visits. The night-time on-call service is also shared amongst multilingual doctors.
