On 7 August we went out for the second time with a humanitarian aid project in Tindouf and Liberated Territories (Tifariti and Mehaires) in Western Sahara. As you know, basic dental care coverage has been established for the population, through the installation of several fully equipped dental clinics and the work of Dentalcoop volunteers, who have been treating thousands of patients since April 2014. The novelty of the first trip in which ClÃnica Benissa took part in December 2016 was the participation of several doctors. Given the success of combining various medical and dental specialties, a comprehensive care plan has been developed for the Liberated Territories.
The aim will be to give the population some autonomy in medical care and therefore a lot of training and help in setting up an infrastructure.
An important part of the trip will be the contribution of medicines and materials. On the one hand, the material and medicines that we use (antibiotics, painkillers, NSAIDs, and emergency medicines) during the assistance; and on the other hand, medicines that are needed in the Saharawi Central Pharmacy, of which there is often a shortage. You can follow us on FacebookThere you can find both lists of materials and medicines in case you can help us to get them. Every contribution, no matter how small, will be welcome. The materials can be delivered to our clinic (opening hours 9-13 hours). You can also help by donating to the following bank account in La Caixa IBAN ES31 2100 0876 3002 0029 8355 in the name of Dentalcoop Sahara, concept: Sahara Benissa.
Thank you very much!
This expedition is named 'Kabiri' after our Saharawi prosthetist colleague (pictured left) who passed away a few months ago. Kabiri did a tremendous job in the development of the prosthetics department and was an example to all of us who have been there.
