We talk to you every day during your consultation about the importance of exercise. Unfortunately, sometimes taking the step to get active can be too difficult or too complicated. That's why we want to launch a new initiative to help you get moving - literally - and improve your health. A growing number of studies, including among older people, show that the quality of life of older people is not only maintained, but significantly improved by regular physical activity. And that people who exercise regularly under responsible supervision (walking, running, stretching) among other things:
- Getting strong and staying strong. Balance and muscle strengthening exercises strengthen muscles, joints, lungs and heart.
- His brain continues to function well or even improves. The improved quality of the nervous system and blood transport slows down and repairs the natural degradation of brain cells. Among other things, they can concentrate better and have less stress and/or depressive feelings, and use physical exercise as an increasingly important "medicine" against dementia.
- They reach quickly the desired weight and maintain it through faster calorie burning.
- Your general health improves and is better maintained. Your endurance increases, improves your metabolism and the muscle to fat ratio is better balanced.
- They have more energy and feel better about themselves. They gain in confidenceThey improve their appearance and therefore become less dependent.
- They work to bring a healthier lifestyle (sleep, eat and drink better).
After a specific sports medical examination in the clinic, every week, under the supervision of a very experienced trainer and with a variety of exercises, you learn that regular training, especially outdoors on the healthy Costa Blanca, is not only very useful, but also fun. In most cases, a significant improvement in physical and mental fitness is achieved within 10 weeks. During the training, which will take place on the athletics track in Benissa, next to/across from the Benissa Sports Centre, all kinds of practical topics will also be covered. If you are interested in this fitness programme for people who have never exercised before or who have not exercised for a long time, come along with sportswear to the free demonstration training sessions to be held on Saturday 16 November and Saturday 21 December at 10:00 am. After the first, very cautious, joint training session, we will answer all your questions and see if the number of participants is sufficient to apply for a grant for this project from your health insurance. The actual classes will start on the 25th of January! The cost is 10 € registration fee (including a short medical examination before and after the course) and 5 € per class. See you then!
Max Meertens (general practitioner) and Dick Suer (certified athletics trainer)
