It is recommended that children have their first orthodontic check-up at around 6–7 years of age, when the first permanent teeth come through. At this age, interceptive orthodontics can guide the growth of the jaws and correct problems that would otherwise be much more difficult to treat later on.
Conventional metal braces are the most durable and cost-effective. Aesthetic braces are made from tooth-coloured materials and are much less noticeable. Self-ligating braces do not require ligatures, create less friction and may require fewer adjustment appointments. At our practice, we will recommend the most suitable option for your individual case.
Yes. There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment: more and more adults are having their teeth straightened, both for aesthetic reasons and for health reasons (better oral hygiene, a better bite, and preparation for dentures or implants). There are discreet options designed specifically for adults.
It depends on the complexity of the case: treatment usually lasts between 12 and 30 months. Following the initial assessment, we will give you a specific estimate, and once treatment is complete, retainers are fitted to maintain the results.
Fitting the braces does not hurt. During the first few days, and after a few adjustments, you may feel some pressure or mild discomfort when chewing, but this disappears quickly and is easily relieved. Your mouth adapts quickly to the braces.
As well as aesthetic braces, there are also clear aligners, a virtually invisible and removable alternative. During your first appointment, we’ll assess whether you’re a suitable candidate and explain the differences so that you can make an informed choice.
